Hello, my name is Gerich and yes, I am a professional wino….

My path to the world of wine was much more serpentine in nature than some; I studied Foreign Relations, German and Chinese in college and then spent my immediate post-collegiate years skiing and preparing for a career as an architect! Having been baptized into fine wine on German Rieslings and dabbling in the business at Quintessa, it wasn’t until I landed at Anomaly Vineyards in St. Helena as cellarmaster (later to be assistant winemaker) that I fully fell for the craft of wine. I loved the cellar, the smell of filling barrels and my dirty, cracked hands; the proverbial hook was set.

At Anomaly I was able to do nearly everything there is to do in a winery.  I sampled vineyards, cleaned nearly everything, built a DTC program, ran the wholesale program, and cleaned everything yet again. When there was evangelizing for Western St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon to be done, whether the congregants were in Sin City or the Bible Belt, I went.

Family needs brought me to the East Coast and into the wholesale world with Grassroots Wine in Charleston, SC; first as an on-premise sales specialist and then as California portfolio manager. It was here that I sat for and passed my Certified Sommelier exams, mostly in order to keep up with the MS candidates in my tasting group!

Managing some of the most compelling wineries in the country put me in day-to-day contact with their owners and winemakers, leading to a friendship with Sashi Moorman of Evening Land. Besides being a talented winemaker, Sashi is the ultimate salesman who eventually convinced us (admittedly with very little persuasion) to move back West to Portland, Oregon.

At Evening Land I oversaw West Coast sales for the three wineries that Sashi holds with his business partner Rajat Parr: Evening Land, Domaine de La Cote & Sandhi. That, in addition to managing the Evening Land Tasting Room, has provided a wealth of experience and added a rich chapter to my 19 years in the wine business.

With expertise from the vineyard to the table I have established HĀLO Wine Marketing to assist premium small & mid-sized wineries in navigating a challenging sales environment. We are uniquely qualified to help you transmit your passion to the market and get corks pulled on your wines. I look forward to working with you.
